Look it's the name man. The I-talian Stallion. The media will eat it up.

Contrary to godly counsel from Lance, we got a Beagle. He's 7 weeks old, but we don't know what to name him.

What's a good Beagle name?

We're looking at the following 3 contenders and welcome feedback, even perhaps a 4th.
  1. Luther
  2. Maverick
  3. Rocky

UPDATE: We decided on "Rocky" for our puppy's name. Thanks for the great suggestions, but this seemed to be the one upon which we could most easily agree.

You're in my thoughts and prayers.

They say that the Beagle is the canine form of a rooster.

Sleep well.

Is that a trick question?! Snoopy, duh! :ob
Awwwhhh he's so cute! I was contempting on which breed to get and a beagle was on my list. After it was the beagle that won in the Westminster Dog show in NYC this year! Hey ... did that influence your choice of breed?!

I'm thinking of getting a dog too but I already promised to my little niece that this dog has to be named "Tigger". So I'm already tied down to a dog's name ... now just got to find a dog with a face that matches the name "Tigger"! :ob

OK so I went to the Westminister pages to see if there's any resemblance with Uno , the beagle that won best in show of 2008. Hmmm ... man he even got to meet the President, looking at that gallery of pictures! They say that the dog who wins, gets a steak from the best Steak Restaurant in NYC! There's a picture of him there chowing it down ... man, there's nothing like the life of dog!

Lifesaver, it's not like he alerted the whole motel to a fire or anything. Not yet, anyway.

I did not know about the Beagle winning the best in show. SWEET. My puppy is like royalty or something since his team won.

Now he'll appreciate why I'll be rooting so hard for the Lakers tomorrow night.

Names ... I was impressed my dad remembered the name of the puppy next door when I was 4 ... "Gear Shift."

I tried that out on Mary Ellen already. The kids liked it a bit, but she not so much.

Jade, thanks fro that site. Gee, a person could spend hours on there. Watching the videos of the dogs is really neat.

Finding a "Tigger" dog may not be the easiest task out there. Some dogs have spots, fewer have stripes.

But, I think I found you a "Tigger."

Hey! Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting! Just curious how you found me?

I also grew up in Garland, TX which is where I see your church is. Pretty cool to see a Reformed S.B. church there! :-)

Rocky

How about Paulie? Paulie's a pretty good name.

If your puppy is like royalty, how about "Regal", as in The Regal Beagle from Three's Company.

To be accurate though, you might go ahead and call him "History", since knowing your wife's propensity to jetison pets, that is what he will be within the year, e.g. Cowboy, Dixie, Harley, Howdy I, Howdy II, etc.

Go with the first name on your list. He looks like a Luther to me.

Oilcan forgot 2 of your other pets. The first was Zeus. But, I don't remember the dog's name that lived down the street on Newport. It was a small, blackish, collie-looking dog.

Beagles are good hunting dogs. He is really cute.

Let me see if I can do this in chronological order, though there was a fair amount of overlap with multiple animals over our nigh unto 15 year marriage.

Zeus
Cowboy
Dixie
Howdy
Chloe
Savannah
Daisy/Tiger
Harley
Howdy II

Incidentally, I'm appreciating the input. Thanks.

Romo?

If he drops a lot of stuff on the carpet you can call him T.O. ;)

Oilcan if that comment about calling him "history" doesn't get into the "comment of the week" hall of fame I would complain. I had to laugh out loud.

I like "Scout." Luther is my favorite from the 3.

I agree with Jade. Snoopy is THE name for a Beagle. Then you can call him Snoop and tell people you named him after Snoop Dog.

Bow wow wow
yippee yo yippee yay,
Gun got a pup,
to wake him every day.

I like Maverick!

Of course, I have a Jack Russell Terrier named Remington. We actually were looking for another JRT - wanting to name him Winchester...but, have not had any luck finding just the right one!

How about "Toby" or "Chester"?

Then again,I was thinking maybe
"Bugle the Beagle" - it might work for you Gunny, since you don't sleep much anyway. Just in case, do yourself a favor and go buy "The Dog Wisperer". ASAP.

Incidentally, is it common for Beagles to insist on sleeping in your bed with you?

We're not off to a good start, are we?

That is a REALLY bad idea. So how many hours of sleep are you getting?

Last night I got 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep and it was AWESOME.

I had been sleeping about 3 hours a night for quite a while and then I got to where I was getting 5, but not in a row. I would either just wake up for no crazy reason or I had a puppy wanting to go out every 1.5 hours to see if the backyard was still there and in need of watering.

Really, the major concern is the insomnia so that even when I am laying down wanting/trying to sleep, sleep does not come.

How do you function during the day Gunny?! Amazing.... I can't do that.

So has he peed on your bed yet? :ob Now tell the truth! :ob

Not as well as I could/should!

So far, the bed is a urine free zone. Of course, after those first few nights his bed privileges have been revoked.
