Lone Star Founders Fraternal

(N.B. For updated info, see Lone Star Founders Fraternal.)

For a few years now I've wanted to organize a local fellowship of like-minded SBC church leaders and future leaders who could meet for mutual encouragement, edification, and enhancement of ministry and personal spirituality. There was a similar group, though more ecumenical, that met in the Fort Worth area that was meeting my needs in this area, but it has been dissolved.

So, at the encouragement of others, I put the wheels in motion for the Lone Star Founders Fraternal, for those friendly to the aims & values of Founders Ministries. We will primarily be meeting in the NE Dallas area and will have our first official meeting on Saturday September 9th, at 9AM. I welcome input from those interested with regard to when to topics to discuss and how to mutually encourage and edify one another.

I envision activities centered around the discussion of theology & practice, perhaps with guest speakers, Deo volente. At our first meeting, we will better define what will meet the needs of the group, so bring your ideas to the table there/then or in the comments section.

The Lone Star Founders Fraternal promotes the fellowship and edification of SBC pastors/elders and future church leaders (e.g., theological students) who seek to glorify God by the preservation & promotion of the doctrines of grace in SBC church life. To the end of fellowship and unity, we request at least general agreement with the "5 Solas" as described in the Cambridge Declaration, but welcome Baptists who can generally affirm any of the following: London Baptist Confessions of 1644/46 or 1689 or the Abstract of Principles (1858).

Please post your comments with any suggestions regarding material or logistical aspects. As a general rule, the plan is to meet every 2nd Saturday at 9AM for breakfast followed by some sort of semi-formal program of study and/or discussion.

At least initially, we will meet at Providence Church.

*Please spread the word and we now have a new more professional, more permanent web page. For more information and/or updates on meetings, see the following page for the Lone Star Founders Fraternal.

I'm down!! Jay and I have our discipleship group so one or two of them might want to join also. They aren't at baptist churches, though they would subscribe to the Cambridge Declaration. I got a wedding to be in Aug. 12 so I might have to miss the first meeting...depends on the time. Looking forward to it!

Sign me up! I'm convinced that groups like this are vitally important to the spiritual health of pastors. In fact I think this is one area where the Anglicans and Presbyterians have a significant advantage over us Baptists.

I concur wholeheartedly, Jay. I know I would have really appreciated such a group while in seminary as well.

I was really feeling outdone in this area recently when my buddy, a LCMS pastor, stayed a few nights and remarked about how beneficial such a group was for him.

Horhay, what time is your wedding? Perhaps we can work it so you can double dip that day.

Great to hear of your plans. You know we'd like to attend, especially after all the times you've come down our way -- that is if you'll have us.

There was a Founders Fellowship at SWBTS for several years that ceased for several reasons. I believe that type of effort has to be generated by students.

We started the TX Reformed Baptist Pastors' Fellowship and have had a great response with 13 pastors at our first meeting, and several others who are interested.

Your effort to begin a Founders Fraternal is very encouraging. We prize your friendship and look forward to the opportunities of fellowship. What's the date in August? How often will you call a meeting?

I sure miss you guys, Larry, and hope you don't mind me crashing the party next quarter. Other commitments prevented this past one, but I hope to keep in touch and hit the next one.

I'd love to have you guys out, especially for our first meeting. However, I just might have you do that presentation you did on Owen & Temptation for us at some point. ; )

I'll keep you guys posted on the date and will probably have to make a call on that in the next few weeks. I'm trying to gauge what might be best for those interested, so we'll see what transpires.

Also, my plan is to try to do it monthly and really to model it very much along the lines of what you guys did with FRPS.

However, I'm certainly open to any suggestions you might have.

Keep the faith, brother, and please do give Steve a "Howdy" for me and ask him what's up with his KC Royals. ; )
